Biography:
I am a Mexican national who has held a variety of language teaching posts in Mexico (Teaching English as a Foreign Language and Spanish as a Second Language) and in the United Kingdom (Sheffield, Plymouth and now at this university). My responsibility at Newcastle is for the Spanish language component of the SML’s degrees. I am one of the co-author of the second edition of Pasaporte al Mundo Hispano which is an advanced Spanish language course designed specifically to prepare students linguistically and culturally for their Year Abroad in a Spanish speaking country. In order to support the teachers who have adopted or may which to adopt Pasaporte, from the end of August 2012 we will be publishing *free of charge* one chapter per week of the “Teachers’ Book” with the answers, transcriptions and, in a couple of cases, an additional recording here in the Language Box.

Qualifications:
1994-96 M.A. in Applied Linguistics, at the University of Sheffield, England. 1988-92 B.A. in TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language)at the Universidad de Guadalajara; Jalisco, México. The course included a substantial amount of teaching practice as well as the study of a great variety of subjects e.g. Psycholinguistics, Psychopedagogy, Pedagogical Grammar, Phonetics and Phonology, Lexical Studies, Sociolinguistics, Discourse Analysis, Language and Culture, Research Methods and Techniques, and Introduction to Translation.
